My Early Life
Hello, I am Joanne. As a child, I found learning hard. I remember being in Year 6 and deciding that one day I wanted to become a teacher. I wanted to help other children who found learning challenging so they would not have to feel how I did.
I worked hard and persevered through secondary school and college, even though it was not easy. At university, I was diagnosed with dyslexia. It finally explained the challenges I faced and allowed me to keep trying new ways of learning and growing.
Helping Other Children
In 2007... I graduated as a teacher and spent many years in the classroom, passionately advocating for children who lacked confidence or didn't find school life easy. I believe in making connections and bringing the skills to life. This is not something that is always easy within the constraints of the curriculum.
In 2016... I was ready to teach in a different way. I set up Growing Young Minds, offering small group lessons that are fun and engaging, while being carefully paced to build confidence and develop thinking skills alongside knowledge. Today we help hundred's of children with our quirky no shoes and learning with laughter outlook.
In 2019... I discovered the wonderful world of Home Education, I loved the flexibility of learning and how child led it was. Inspired, it bought out an old passion, and I began writing themed learning plans to support parents and children build skills on their terms. As this community grew, so did the resources we provided. Guided by the feedback from parents, we developed complete learning packs with planning ideas, discussion questions and hands-on and paper-based activities, helping children develop skills alongside knowledge in a connected and engaging way.
Our future... We are making new themed learning packs and have lots of other resources we are excited to share.
Learning In A New Way
I am proud of the resources we create and how they reflect our values at Growing Young Minds. We start where the child is, follow their interests, and build up skills as well as knowledge. Our resources encourage critical thinking and help children prepare for the future, ensuring they are ready for whatever life may bring.
Now, as a parent myself, I understand even more the importance of balancing time while supporting your child's learning. I know how valuable it is to have high-quality, trusted resources that saves you planning time and allows you to spend meaningful moments together as a family.
From our Growing Young Minds family to yours, we are excited that you are here. We welcome you to a world of imagination, child-led exploration, and connected learning.
